RE: silver emergency blanket

Actually the Space Blanket was sold as a Coleman product back then, and in fact I still have one that is still in relatively good shape. But everyone is right, you need to keep it directly under the sleeping bag to be the most effective. Here is a site for the heavier blanket that should have a longer life span and is easier to reuse.

RE: WINTER HEAT

I use two ceramic heaters to warm my unit too. It doesn't matter if you use a ceramic heater or an oil type heater as it takes the same number of BTU's to heat up a given amount of air. The ceramic heater does it faster than the oil type, but it still takes the same BTU's.
So use whichever one you want as long as it heats you up. Space and weight is always an issue, therefore I stick with the ceramic units which are generally lighter. But you can go to the BTU Table to read more about it.

RE: Camping World "National Sell Sheet Winter Edition "

Yes the prices looked good, but I can tell you when I stopped in Syracuse, NY to look at the used units there - they were somewhat dirty. Looked more like they were repo units than anything else.

RE: Coachmen sell out?

Buffet may not buy turkeys, but he may use it to sell out the parts to make a one time profit. My guess is that Coachman is on it's way out like so many others in the past year.
One less competitor for Forest River.

RE: Super C Advantages

Super C will generally have more towing capacity.
One thing to remember there are parks out there that will not let a Class C of any style stay there, so also think about that depending on where you are traveling.

RE: Generator exhaust fumes

If you search around you may find plans on making the unit also. My brother made his own and it didn't come even close to the price that CW wanted.

RE: Replacement Cab carpet

I had mine replaced by a professional carpet installer (my son-in-law) and it came out just fine. But you really want to put foam under the carpet, preferably the best foam, because that's what gives you the good feeling. Also in the cab of my unit some of the carpet was held in place with self tapping screws. When I took them out I filled the holes with a good auto seam sealer because you will not be able to find those holes when your putting the new carpet in and you don't want water to come through the holes later.

RE: will oceanfront parking cause damage?

Your risk is greater from the salt on the roads in New York than the campgrounds on the ocean.

RE: Power Module- US Gear

I also would like to find an electronic schematic for the control unit, as mine has gone bad. The issue is that US Gear wants $400.00 for a replacement module. I just can't believe that there is that much in the unit that with a good schematic I couldn't repair it.

RE: your opinions on fuel stablizers for winter storage

It is always a good practice to fill your fuel tanks, and I also fill my propane tank during the winter months. Filling the fuel tank reduces the amount of moisture space available in the tank and thus reduces the amount of rust that could develop in a fuel tank.
As far as a fuel conditioner, well that's another thing. I put stabilizer in equipment I will not use during the summer months, when the heat causes more evaporation, but I do not add it during the winter. With the cold temperatures there is not nearly as much evaporation, so I don't worry about stabilizers.
The question would be today, what are the differences with the new fuel mixtures that we put in our tanks.

RE: Tiffin Phaeton 36' at Hershey Show

I also would expect that Bob Tiffins thoughts are realistic, and as said, Tiffin has survived in the past. Remember, Tiffin does not manufacture on credit, each unit is sold before it starts down the assembly line! And that is according to them.

RE: FRED VS Pusher Comparison?

I to am interested in a FRED and have driven both front engine vehicles. I did not find the noise difference some people believe there is between a diesel and a gas unit. Also, from looking, and we are on our second Mh, the Tiffins seems to have a great deal more finish that most other brands. I in fact visited the factory in May, and that was worth a thousand + words. Nothing is hidden from you and you can question any worker on anything! That says a lot. And as far as mileage, no one really knows for sure what that will be until they have a unit. Gas mileage on this forum seems to go from 6 -9 mpg, and diesel, 10 - 14 mpg. Good luck on what ever unit you get.

RE: Class A pricing - discounted 100k?

Looking at the year (2007) they could be leftovers, but in Syracuse, NY, I found that they were likely used and consignment units!!! One looked great on the outside (it was in the showroom) and looked like it was never cleaned inside when it was used. Won't stop at that Camping World to look at a rig again.

RE: Camping World in Northern Va (DC) Closes

The good thing about RV dealers that are now going to open their own stores is that maybe now there will be price competition. CW's prices were getting to the point that even with the President's Club card, items were no longer competitive priced.

RE: Very weird AC problem!

Just as posted elsewhere on here, you may need to check your electrical connections both on the air conditioners and the distribution panel. It is possible that the connections are lose causing your wiring to heat up and then reducing the amperage getting to the air conditioners. With low amperage the compressors will not run right.

Your right, it is the Alphin Haus complex, and with there sales volume I'm surprised that Camping World is leaving. There is the chance that Alphin Haus saw the volume of business, and want to pick that up thereself.

RE: SAMS CLUB GAS

In the Albany, NY area there are only 3 distributors of fuel anymore. If you ask any trucker the that transports fuel for the various gas stations, you'll find that they are generally delivering the gas that is the cheapest that day. The game for gas stations is to make the most profit, so to do so that order from whoever is the cheapest. The only gas station in the Albany area that consistently get gas from the same terminal is Hess. Because they now almost own all of there own stations.

Camping World Closing Store

This week Camping World notified their employees in the Amsterdam, NY store that they would be closing the end of August. There will be no store sale, because anything left over will be sent back to the warehouse. Is this just the beginning?

RE: Tiffin Cutting Back Too

I visited the factory about 6 weeks ago and they were making 10 units a day then and Red stated they were only making units then that where already purchased. So, Just like many others, I hope they survive because they are our first choice to replace the C we have now.
And yes, I'm willing to buy an A and pay for the fuel, but I have 22 months yet to retire, and I want my new unit to be close to new when I buy.

RE: towing a car with a Class C

Go ahead and tow your car, it makes it more fun when you get where you are going. That being said, here's some things you need to think about:
1. Make sure your GCVW is not exceeded.
2. Get a good tow bar
3. Get a good auxiliar brake system for your car - I use a unified tow brake unit.
4. Forget using a dolly, it takes up space at the campground.
5. and above all don't plan on using your car as a trailer!
I've towed at least 20,000 miles with my C with no problems.
